PUBLIC SAFETY

  • Organized Halloween Safety Night partnership with residents and police – ‘08
  • Police Traffic Enforcement Unit – ’08
  • Speed bumps placed on Kensington Avenue - ’08
  • Resident only permit parking for Hillside/Randolph residents – ’06
TRANSPARENCY IN GOVERNMENT

  • Council meetings on Comcast & FIOS; Made council documents available at the library – ’09
  • Established web site enabling citizens to view council documents as well as city documents such as City Codes and Ordinances (www.RashidBurney.com) 2007
TAXES

  • Constantly fought for a more efficient City Hall. Today the work is done with fewer employees then in 2005
  • Removed a drug rehabilitation center for non-Plainfield patients off our tax base to a non-profit organization – ’09
  • Negotiated a 6-point settlement with PMUA – Ongoing
  • Created the Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee – ’08
  • Created the IT, and Economic Advisory Committees (Citizens Budget Advisory Committee remained) – ’09
LEGISLATION

  • Established the Shade Tree Commission and retained its funding – ’06
  • Sex-offender-free zones – ’06
  • Retained funding for Cultural and Heritage Commission – ’06
  • Ensured domestic partners received same benefits as married couples – ’06
DID YOU KNOW that since I have been on the council…

  • We have more police officers on the streets today than in 2005
  • We have fewer city employees today than in 2005 and City Hall is running on fewer dollars (minus inflation and contractual salary increases)
  • I voted against the 2010 budget partly because it eliminated six Plainfield Police officers and did away with $150,000 of the Plainfield Library’s budget
